I bought my PS3 a year ago and since then I was trying to use it as a media center. I bought the PS3 in a package with a 40″ Sony Bravia, the full hd model, and a sound system. I realised that I’d rather watch my movies on the TV than on my 20″ monitor. This is where the challenges came.

Fiirst I tried using Windows Media Player. All was well the PS3 found the server no problem BUT I couldn’t play most of the videos because PlayStation 3 doesn’t have codecs for them and you cannot install any.

So there was a new update for the PS3 today. 1.80. Sony is really striving towards getting people to realize the PS3 is a media center. Support for DNLA was added with the update but with no docmentation on hor to set up DNLA. Does anyone know how to set it up with windows xp, windows media player 11, and a computer connected to a wireless connection?

Download Windows Media Player 11 from the internet. Once downloaded, go to tools, options and click Library. Once there, click on Configure Sharing. If you have your ps3 on and on the XMB, a little icon on WMP 11 should pop up and say Unknown device. Allow that and click apply. All of your music, pictures, and videos on WMP 11 should show up on you PS3 in their respected areas.
