Home Wireless Network How to

Almost every family has a home network and a prerequisite is if it could be wireless, the less cables needed the better. One of the advantages of wireless networks is the lack of cables. But with that there are a lot of disadvantages, not having cables makes it easier for hackers to get into your home network and also since the signal is wireless it has to go through walls etc.

  1. Placement: First of all try and find a place in the middle of your home where you can place the wireless gateway. Also make sure that the device is not near a corner because that limits the coverage. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t find a suitable place just make sure the device is away from any electrical equipment like microwaves, mobile phones and sometimes power plugs, all these can affect reception. There are other ways you can improve your home wireless network coverage which I won’t be mentioning in this article.

What do I need to buy to set up my own home wireless network?

I want to set up my own home wireless network, I was wondering what I would need to buy in order to do that. My laptop already has built in wireless internet.

It depends on what kind of IP you're using but basically all you should need is a wireless router. If you have a DSL or cable service all you do is to hook the router up to the network where the computer is hooked up right now.

what do i need in order to setup a home wireless network?

i am trying to set up a wireless network at home for me and my brothers and sisters so that when we are in our rooms on our laptops we can still message each other, help each other with homework, and send music and video to each other. This is NOT for internet. mom doesn't let us have it b/c she says it will side track our studies. but every solution for wireless home networks that i have seen concerns an internet connection. it needs to work in a pretty big house on three floors so i don't think just creating an ad hoc network between laptops would be suitable. is all we need a powerful wireless router? can it be used to just communicate between laptops?

thanks for any info!!

yeh just a router, then setup the networking wizard on all pcs,
thats all you need to do….good luck
